Membership Information

The Sacramento Hotel Association (SHA) provides lodging industry employees and suppliers with opportunities to learn about current industry trends and information, understand the importance of the hospitality industry in our community, and interact with lodging industry colleagues as well as managers and owners of companies who are affiliated with the Sacramento visitor industry.

SHA's members include a cross section of the hospitality industry--both lodging properties and suppliers/vendors.

Professional members represent a range of lodging properties--including large convention hotels and all-suite inns.

Associate members represent the full spectrum of products and services used by hotels and others engaged in the hospitality industry—food and beverage, transportation, landscape, communications, technology, and more.

We invite lodging properties and hospitality industry suppliers to join the Sacramento Hotel Association today--just complete the online membership application.

Specific Benefits and Services

Government Relations/Industry Advocacy

SHA conducts an ongoing government relations program to effectively represent industry interests within city and county government.  SHA members serve on hospitality industry advisory committees and testify at city and county meetings. SHA is the voice of the Sacramento hotel industry.

Industry Laws and Regulations

Lodging properties are subject to accountability through various laws and regulations.  To keep members informed of these issues, SHA invites the California Hotel & Lodging Association to present an annual update on new state laws and industry regulations, as well as pending legislation affecting the lodging industry.

Destination Marketing and Industry Growth

The hospitality industry is very competitive and reputable lodging properties play a key role in the desirability of a destination.

SHA is committed to the growth and prosperity of the entire area’s hotel/travel industry. In this regard, SHA supports the marketing efforts of the Visit Sacramento, the California Travel Association and Visit California.  Through strong support of these entities, SHA members will continue to prosper and bring greater benefit to the community.

SHA continues to be the leading proponent of the hotel industry-sponsored Sacramento Tourism Marketing District (STMD). The marketing dollars collected from this special district are vital to the marketing of our destination. The association leadership is responsible for appointing lodging industry representatives to the STMD Tourism District Committee, which oversees the district’s budget and marketing program.

Educational Programs, Member Activities and Scholarship Program

The association works diligently to inform and educate the hospitality community about industry issues and community developments that affect lodging properties and suppliers, as well as our destination’s image. SHA offers members quality educational experiences and networking opportunities for all employee segments of the industry.

SHA sponsors six luncheon meetings a year with an educational component at each luncheon.  Speakers address hospitality industry and community development issues. SHA's annual Farm-to-Fork Fall Fundraiser benefits local charities and features festive food stations hosted by local hotels. Area wineries and craft breweries support the fundraiser with mouthwatering tastings. The association also sponsors a holiday reception to collect new toys for the less fortunate children in our community.

SHA also sponsors the annual Sacramento Hospitality Classic golf tournament each fall. The tournament provides a marketing and networking opportunity for the local hospitality and meetings/travel industry to showcase Sacramento as a destination, along with the products and services available to clients and customers.

The Sacramento Hotel Association sponsors an annual scholarship program. We invite college and university students to apply for the tuition scholarships available to students studying for a career in culinary arts management, lodging management, business management, or other tourism-related field. Fundraising at the annual golf tournament provides the grants for the scholarship program.

Industry Recognition

Lodging property managers and their teams work very hard to provide high-quality customer service to their guests 365 days a year! Suppliers and vendors are key partners in providing comfortable and memorable experiences for guests in our community. Each year at the Spring Hospitality Gala, industry and community leaders and employees honor local hospitality employees and suppliers.  The evening is a memorable way of recognizing exceptional hotel employees and a key supplier.

Travel Trends and Statistics

SHA provides “big picture” information to members about travel trends and statistics from such organizations and research firms as the U.S. Travel Association, American Hotel & Lodging Association, Global Business Travel Association, CBRE Hotels, and J.D. Power and Associates.

Community Relations

The association maintains a community relations program that assures recognition of SHA as the representative entity for the lodging industry in the Sacramento region and secures public recognition for members and their accomplishments. The association sponsors an annual community service project--"The Hospitality Industry Helping in the Community." SHA's annual Farm-to-Fork Fall Fundraiser benefits local charities and features festive food stations hosted by local hotels. Area wineries and craft breweries support the fundraiser with mouthwatering tastings.

SHA and its members are key supporters of programs and projects sponsored by community organizations that provide assistance services to neighborhoods an dresidents.

Communications

It is an ongoing SHA goal for members to receive the industry news they need to perform their jobs.  Through the Reader Board newsletter, the annual membership directory, and other publications, members are informed of current items of importance to our industry and the association.
